WELCOME TO DELTA GAMMA!

MEET OUR PRESIDENT!

War Eagle! My name is Caroline McCoy, and I have the honor of serving as President of the Delta Sigma chapter of Delta Gamma this year. As you look around our website, we hope you are able to learn more about what makes this chapter so special for each and every member. When I ran home to Delta Gamma two years ago, I was so excited for the new friends that I would meet and for the sisterhood I would be joining. I never could have imagined how greatly I would further my involvement with service, discover leadership opportunities, or cultivate so many lifelong friendships. I have truly been able to become the best version of myself with the women of DG around me.

As members of Delta Gamma, our purpose is to foster high ideals of friendship, promote educational and cultural interests, to create a true sense of social responsibility, and to develop the best qualities of character in each of our members. We pride ourselves on encompassing these resolutions throughout our membership in Delta Gamma and continuing them as alumnae.

Our letters, DG, stand for our motto, "Do Good." This holds true, not only in Delta Gamma’s philanthropic efforts, but also in everyday life. Being a member of DG pushes you to help those around you with whatever they may need! We were established in the ideals of sisterhood and character development which are critical attributes for growth during your college years. We believe in loyalty, not only to the Fraternity, but to each other. I believe that everyone brings their own uniqueness and individuality to the table, but when we come together as one common group, we can “Do Good” for each other and the Auburn community.

I am so proud to be a part of this chapter and truly could not imagine a better group of women to have right by my side. Joining this sisterhood goes beyond your undergraduate years at Auburn– it lasts for a lifetime! My hope is that while you are exploring our website, you are able to catch a glimpse into what it means to be a Delta Gamma. I am so beyond grateful that I get to call these women my best friends and Delta Gamma my home!

ITB,

Caroline McCoy

WHO WE ARE

Delta Gamma Fraternity was founded in 1873 in Oxford, Mississippi at the Lewis School for Girls by three young women: Anna Boyd, Mary Comfort and Eva Webb. Founded before the term sorority was used, our fraternity has since grown into one of the largest international women’s organizations with more than 250,000 members, 150 collegiate chapters and 200 alumnae groups.

With Delta Gamma’s founding, Anna, Mary and Eva helped spark a movement to create safe and empowering communities for women on college campuses. We still make that space for each other today, through a culture of belonging, a promise to empower and a commitment to put our purpose into practice. This is the Do Good Sisterhood. This is Delta Gamma.

Delta Gamma colonized Auburn’s campus with its first new member class in 1972. The charter group worked hard, continually recruited, and played hard together, building the membership and making an impact on campus. They lived together in Dorm 1, which was next to Cater Hall. It was the best experience for getting to know the pledge class and becoming a tight-knit group. They cooked together, watched tv together, played cards, and overall began to embody our chapter’s ideals of sisterhood and pave the way for Delta Sigma to grow and foster genuine friendships. We are thankful to these women for forming what has become a home for many generations.

“I’m still in touch with several friends from those early years; we still travel together and one of my best friends even married my husband’s best friend!”

- Patsy Smith (MC ‘72)
